Matthew J. Mahlberg, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained dermatologic surgeon who specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer, laser surgery, and aesthetic dermatology. He recently served as President of the Colorado Dermatologic Society and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Colorado.
A Colorado native, Dr. Mahlberg received his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder as a Boettcher Scholar. After earning his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he trained and served as Chief Resident in dermatology at the New York University Medical Center (NYU), one of the nation’s top academic dermatology centers. Dr. Mahlberg continued his training in Mohs micrographic surgery, reconstructive surgery and laser surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Matthew J. Mahlberg is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters in the areas of cutaneous oncology, reconstructive surgery, and aesthetic medicine. His work in the field of reconstructive surgery has been recognized by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and he was the recipient of a national award for his research in reconstructive surgery. He also is passionate about healthcare policy and serves as a Member of the Task Force on Health Care Costs and Quality for the Colorado Medical Society.
Dr. Mahlberg lectures on the subjects of skin cancer, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic dermatology both locally and nationally. He also serves as guest host for DoctorRadio on SiriusXM satellite radio.
Doctor Theo Alkousakis is a board certified dermatologist with a special interest in pigmented lesions, skin cancer and clinical research in psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Before joining Colorado Center for Dermatology he was the Medical Director of the Adult Dermatology Clinic at the University of Colorado Hospital, where he also was the Director of Clinical Research for three years.
Dr. Alkousakis was born in California and raised in Greece. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University. He was an ARCS Foundation Scholar and graduated from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine with Highest Distinction (Summa cum laude) and received the Order of Areté for contribution to leadership and scholarship. He was trained in dermatology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which is renowned for its excellent clinical training.
He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Colorado Dermatologic Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Alkousakis served as President of the Colorado Dermatologic Society and remains a community associated Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Colorado. He has authored numerous articles and participated in international clinical trials as Principal Investigator. He received a Presidential Citation for advocacy from the American Academy of Dermatology in 2017. He currently serves as the state representative to the AAD Advisory Board.
